Ingredients

  • 1 Apple
  • 40g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon raw or brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon desiccated coconut

Instructions

  1. Peel and core the apple. Slice in half from top to bottom. Slice a small sliver of apple off the rounded edge. This will become the base of your baked apple.

  3. Add rolled oats, flour, coconut and sugar to the remaining butter/cinnamon mixture and stir together.
  4. Spoon the crumble mixture onto the flat side of the apples.
  5. To cook in the air fryer, place the apples on the air fryer tray and cook on 170ºC for 18 minutes or until soft in the centre.
  6. To cook in the oven, place the apple pieces onto a baking dish and cook on 160ºC for 25-30 minutes, or until soft in the centre.
  7. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or your favourite custard.

Notes

If you don’t wish to use crumble, other options for baked apples are:

🍏 Brush the tops with a combination of melted butter and cinnamon then bake.

🍎 Drizzle with honey or maple syrup with a sprinkle of cinnamon then bake.

🍏 You can easily make these gluten free and dairy free by swapping suitable substitutions such as quinoa flakes, coconut sugar, nuttelex/coconut oil, gluten free flour.

🍎 I found ½ an apple was enough for a serving for 1 person.

🍏  I chose to use Granny Smith Apples, however you could use any apples you have at home. Perfect excuse to use up the apples from the fruit bowl.

🍎  You could even make this for a sneaky breakfast treat and serve with yoghurt.
