5 Genius Lime Hacks to Make Every Drop Count

Limes are one of my favourite ingredients to have on hand - I always have a few in my fruit bowl. Their bright, zesty flavour adds the perfect touch to both sweet and savoury dishes, whether you're squeezing them over tacos, mixing them into a refreshing drink, or using them in a tangy dessert. But are you getting the most out of them?

If you've ever had limes dry out too quickly or struggled to extract every last drop of juice, you’re not alone! This month, I’m sharing some simple yet effective tips to help you store, juice, and use limes more efficiently. Let’s make every drop count!

  1. How to Get More Juice: Before cutting a lime, roll it firmly on the bench with your palm to break up the juice sacs inside. You can also microwave it for 10 seconds to help release more juice. See the tip I shared on YouTube here!

  2. Zest First, Then Juice - Always zest your lime before cutting and juicing. It’s much easier to handle, and the zest adds a punch of flavour to baked goods, marinades, or cocktails.

  3. The Best Way to Store Limes: Keep them in a sealed container or zip-lock bag in the fridge to stay fresh for up to a month. If they start to harden, submerge them in water in the fridge to help them stay juicy.

  4. No Juicer? No Problem! - If you don’t have a citrus juicer, use a fork! Stick it into the lime half and twist while squeezing to extract every last drop.

  5. Freeze for Later  - Juice limes into an ice cube tray and freeze for easy use in drinks, dressings or recipes. You can also freeze lime zest for a burst of citrus whenever you need it!
